Vaccinations and Other New Stuff

On Thursday, Abigail had her 2 month doctor's appointment. It was a monumental occasion for both her and Mommy. At the visit, she received a liquid vaccine for the rotavirus and then three shots. She was fine for the rotavirus vaccine (of course), but it was a different story for the shots. When the nurse inserted the needle she was fine but then she began the injection. That is when the poor baby began to scream. I began crying as well. It broke my heart to see the look in her eye as she stared at me with pleading eyes while screaming. I'm glad she doesn't have to go through that again until her four month visit.

After the injections, she was fine until that evening. She then began to have a fever and became very fussy. On Friday, she was still fighting a fever, was very fussy and slept a lot. It was a lot of work for Mommy, but I didn't mind. By the time Jeromy arrived home for work she seemed to be feeling much better.

A few other things that we learned from the doctor was that we needed to stop feeding her in a "snacking" fashion. Abigail has developed a tendancy to eat a couple ounces and then wait an hour and eat another ounce and then eat another ounce after another hour. She informed us that we need to feed her and then make her wait at least three hours before letting her eat again. The idea is that Abigail will develop a set schedule for eating. Another new development is that we were informed that she should not be eating at all over night. Once we lay her down for bed, that is it. So, now we have to let her cry at night. That hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. I thought it would be awful, but instead it has gone very smoothly. Jeromy has led the charge in this. On both Friday and Saturday nights (I didn't have the heart to start on Thursday since she was so out of sorts from the shots) she woke up a few times, but Jeromy just gave her the pacifier and turned on the "mommy bear" and she fell right back to sleep. We have been lucky in that she has not screamed for hours like some of the stories we have heard from other parents.

One more thing...she now weighs 11 pounds, 6 ounces and is now 22 inches long!!!! She is in the 50 percentile in both weight and height.
