First Step Toward Adoption

Last night, Jeromy and I traveled to Fostoria to our first meeting with the Catholic Diocese about the adoption process. Unfortunately, we did not learn anything new for the most part. We learned that I will need to be certified in Infant First Aid and CPR, if we are to be able to bring the baby home from the hospital. We don't think that Jeromy will need to take the class since he is an ER doctor and all. Isn't it funny that we need to have this certification, but just about anyone else can get pregnant?

Once disappointing thing that we learned is that we could have had our paperwork almost two weeks ago if we would have called. That is so frustrating! We just assumed that we would receive the paperwork at the meeting since they had not mentioned it in their letters to us. So, Jeromy called them today and they will be sending out the paperwork tonight (at least the first "chunk"). I guess that is what happens when you assume. :)

We will keep you updated!

How exciting!!!! :)
It is amazing what they put adoptive parents through - however, I think agencies feel that this is how they can do their part to make good parents. They can't change those out there just getting pregnant and not caring for their children. It's easier to just put that frustration towards the things they can control. Make sense?

But I am so excited for Jeromy and you - does the Catholic Diocese require you to be Catholic to adopt from them? Evidently not, unless you've not only changed churches but have also secretly become Catholic???? ;)

Knowing you, the paperwork will be done a couple hours after you get it. At least it won't delay the process....very exciting stuff!

Sorry for the disappointing info you got. As for the paperwork...I agree with Kelly. Between the two of you, you'll have it filled out in no time. Maybe there's a very special baby you're going to get that you wouldn't have gotten if you'd done the paperwork earlier? :-) In case I haven't said it lately, your child is going to be very lucky! You both will be great parents!
